Dirt!
Adam was made from dirt.
We are dirt creatures.
We are connected to the dirt.
In order to survive, we must eat food grown in dirt.
Once we have absorbed all the value from it,
the remains return to the dirt.
Whole lives are spent chasing, cleaning, dusting,
and moving the dirt.
Then we die
and we are buried in dirt!
Angels are not connected to dirt.
They are spirit.
They can see what we can't.
They see right and wrong as we can't.
Would that we were angels
and not connected to dirt!
But maybe that's what makes us special to God.
When we choose to love Him and obey Him,
it's not a choice made with full knowledge,
but a choice made by faith and love.
There is no coercion, no force.
He already loves us
and when we love Him back,
it splashes all over the place.
I wonder if fasting and prayer
disconnect us from the dirt
so that we can experience that spiritual realm
just a little bit more clearly.
Maybe that's how we clean up to approach God;
we clean up from the dirt a little,
break the connection,
show God we're willing to give up,
sacrifice our dependence on the DIRT!
